Ice cream vendor arrested for gun, ammo

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

Policemen caught an ice cream vendor in Numancia, Aklan in a raid on the morning of October 4 after yielding his unlicensed handgun and ammunition.

Invensor Rampola Nervar, 40, married, resident of Barangay Bulwang, this town, was served a search warrant by personnel of Numancia municipal police station at around 9:30 a.m.

The search warrant No. EJ-05-18 was issued on October 3 by Judge Bienvenido Barrios, Jr. of the Regional Trial Court in Kalibo, Aklan.

“Ako lang humahawak ng baril dahil namatay na ang lolo ko noong isang taon. Walang tao sa bahay ni lolo sa Libacao kaya dinala ko itong baril dito. Matagal at sira na itong armas, nakatago ito sa bahay namin,” the suspect said.

The arrest is part of the intensified campaign “Tokhang Kontra Ginadumili-an nga Pusil” or the operation against illegal firearms of the local police.

During the raid, Nervar yielded a .38-caliber and 11 live ammunition.  The suspect failed to show pertinent documents for the firearm.

“May nagreklamo sa akin at nagpablotter sa pulis at iyon ang pinagbasehan ng search warrant. Nagulat ako ng dumating ang mga pulis at nag-raid,” Nervar said after his arrest.

The suspect is facing charges for violations of Republic Act No. 10591 otherwise known as Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition Act.
