Comelec-Aklan reminds poll bets to file COCs early

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged political aspirants in Aklan to file early their certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2019 mid-term elections.

The candidates who aspire to run for mayor, vice mayor and councilors are expected to troop the Comelec local offices in 17 municipalities to file their COCs. Those who intend to run for congressman, governor, vice governor  and Sangguniang Panlalawigan should file their COCs at Comelec-Aklan provincial office.

The poll body will start receiving COCs on October 11 and 12, October 15 to 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Do not wait for the deadline para kung may problema ang COCs maayos agad ng kandidato,” said Crispin Raymond Gerardo, Comelec-Aklan spokesperson.

Comelec will also accept COCs for congressional seats for First and Second Legislative Districts. The province of Aklan was reapportioned into two legislative districts by virtue of Republic Act No. 11077. The law was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last month.

Gerardo said the poll body will hold an Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing on October 25 to finalize the lists of registered voters in the province.

Applicants who registered during the voters’ registration from July 2 to September 29, 2018 will be evaluated.

Meanwhile, Comelec reminded the candidates of the campaign period for Members of the House of Representatives, provincial and municipal officials from March 30, 2019 to May 11, 2019.

The election period and gun ban is also set on January 13, 2019 until June 12, 2019.
