Good news for 20,190 typhoon victims.
In Aklan, the initial batch of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) survivors will receive the P5,000 or roughly P100 million of Presidential Assistance Fund (PAF) after the final revalidation of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The figure represents 47 percent of 42,587 beneficiaries in the 17 towns of Aklan already validated as qualified recipients and awaiting for PAF distribution, according to Rise Up Aklan provincial coordinator Kim-Sin Tugna.
In an interview, Tugna said the revalidation of the remaining recipients is ongoing until July 15 to fill-up the financial assistance application forms required under Memorandum Circular No. 3.
Rise Up Aklan, a broad organization of Yolanda survivors in Aklan, is closely monitoring the distribution of P5,000 assistance from the Office of the President to eligible beneficiaries who failed to get assistance from DSWD, people’s organizations and non-government organizations and the government agencies for the past three years.
Tugna said cash cards will be issued to Yolanda victims by a government bank from the list of beneficiaries submitted to DSWD regional office.
Data from Rise Up Aklan showed the town of Ibajay had the most number of qualified beneficiaries with 4,312 followed by the capital town of Kalibo with 3,616.
Nabas had 1,943 recipients; Banga, 1,874; Numancia, 1,758; Malay, 1,145; Altavas, 1,013; Buruanga, 834; Makato, 788; Libacao, 749; New Washington, 649; Tangalan, 533; Balete, 417; Lezo, 247; Malinao, 184 and Batan, 90;
The town of Madalag had the least number of recipients with 38.
The President’s financial assistance is given to eligible Yolanda
survivors following the scrapping of
the controversial Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) and MC 24.
Cash grants of P30,000 under MC 24 were distributed to qualified survivors whose houses were totally damaged and P10,000 per family for partially damaged houses.
A Typhoon Yolanda victim is eligible to receive the new cash assistance, provided, the dwelling must have damage by Typhoon Yolanda on November 8, 2013 and the victim was not included in the list of beneficiaries, regardless of the extent of damage, by any relief groups and NGOs.
