Sangguniang Bayan member Dante Pagsuguiron is deeply concerned of contrabands or illegal goods, firearms and drugs sneaked into the island that may pose serious threats to security and peace.

"So far, there are no x-ray machines to check the cargoes as well as police officers to secure the cargo loading and unloading areas," he stressed.

The northeast side of Caticlan and Cagban ports is designated by a municipal ordinance as loading and unloading for cargoes of motorboats plying the routes between Malay and other territories.  All pumpboats are also required to get Mayor’s permit to operate within the municipal waters of Malay.

SB member Floribar Bautista further said, “it is also easy to transport contrabands with the present set-up and security in the cargo loading areas in Caticlan and Sambiray-Argao areas."

“Maraming butas ang Boracay. Baka malusutan tayo,” he added.

Liga ng mga Barangay president Julieta Aron also noted that there are pump boats being hired to Boracay Island by individuals or commuters in Sitio Tabon Baybay area in Caticlan at night, despite, the provincial government of Aklan had designated Caticlan port as entry point to Boracay.

To address the issues, the Sangguniang Bayan of Malay will invite the Philippine Coast Guard, the Malay municipal police station, Caticlan port and barangay officials, land owners in Sambiray-Argao beach areas, Boracay Malay Sea and Land Haulers Multi-purpose Cooperative and MASBOI Sailboat Multi-purpose Cooperative.
