Social media users and passengers slammed the sight of plastic buckets in Kalibo International Airport (KIA) terminal building at the height of typhoon ‘Ineng’.

Photographs taken on Friday and circulating on the social networking site Facebook show a number of plastic buckets placed in the corridors of the old terminal building to collect rainwater leaking through its ceiling.

The leaking was partly due to heavy downpour brought by typhoon “Ineng” (international name Goni) which affected Aklan last Friday. The intense rains and gusty rains also caused more flooding in low-lying areas and left some roads unpassable.

As of Sunday, the pictures had more than 25 shares, 240 likes and more than 80 comments, and it seems growing.

“Raining outside, raining inside, only in the Philippines…owa eon ako it iba pa nga mahambae,” read one of the comments of a Facebook page.

Another Facebook user posted, ”let the contractor answer for this annoying condition of the newly constructed KIA.”
“Basi bagong gawa tapos ganyan pati sa loob may ulan din wow nakakahiya naman yan.”

In a radio interview, KIA manager Martin Tere said the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) will definitely address the ceiling water leak.

Tere stressed he coordinated with Engr. Arturo Balderas, project manager of DOTC, to rush the repair works of the old terminal building.

“Halin pa na sa una kag wala pa ku diri sa Kalibo airport, may dapat na i-repair. While waiting for the approval with CAAP, I already instructed the engineering to have maintenance work to address the leakage,” he said over Bombo Radyo Kalibo.

KIA, one of the busiest airports in the country, handles 19 international and 17 domestic flights a day, the airport official said.
