The town of Malay emerged as overall champion of the 2nd Governor Florencio T. Miraflores Rescuelympics 2015, besting 10 other
Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Aklan.

The one-day rescue olympics
is organized by the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC)
which is under the Office of the Governor. PDRRMC is headed by its executive officer
Galo Ibardolaza.
Participating MDRRMOs and
rescue teams engaged themselves in challenges and safety-rescue skill
competitions on April 21 at Aklan Calangcang Sports Complex in Makato, Aklan.
Malay MDRRMO defended its
title as it was adjudged Best in First Aid Scenario, Best in Vehicle
Extrication, Best in Basic Life Support, Best in Mass Casualty Scenario, Best
in Water Search and Rescue, Best Swimmer, Best in Equipment Display and Best in
Uniform.
On the other hand, Kalibo
MDRRMO grabbed the overall 1st runner-up and the Best in Fire Fighting award while
Balete MDRRMO clinched 2nd runner-up.
Skilled rescue teams from
the towns of Malinao, Libacao, Nabas, Batan, Makato, Lezo, Tangalan and Ibajay
also joined the various challenges of the rescue olympics.
The rescue olympics is an
annual event designed to heighten the significance of life-saving and self rescue among the populace, to increase the preparedness of the public on
emergencies, disaster and unforeseen natural or human-made events and to develop
bonding and camaraderie between and among rescue teams.
