Boracay
Island is going to rewrite The Guinness of World best record for the “longest
massage chain” this week.
More
than 1,200 people will attempt to beat the current Guinness record on May 16,
said Malay chief tourism operations officer Felix Gregorio Delos Santos.
The
current Guinness record is 1,223, set by Have A Good Dream Co. Ltd and Thai
Beverage Marketing Co. Ltd (both Thailand) at the Rama IX Park, Bangkok,
Thailand for most people being massaged at the same time for five minutes in
March 2010.
In
an interview, Delos Santos said massage therapists are attempting to break the
record for seven minutes in front of Summer Place near Station 2 on Friday
starting at 8 a.m.
The
soothing massage on the beach is popular and a common sight in Boracay Island
for tourists and visitors. Some resorts and spa are also offering massage
treatments and services at affordable packages.
In
preparations for Friday’s record attempts, Delos Santos had coordinated with the
Boracay massage therapists association to ensure the specifications set by
Guinness World Records are facilitated.
Breaking
a Guinness World Record is one of the activities of the grand celebration of
Boracay Day this week, he added.
Delos
Santos hopes to fly a Record adjudicator from London to Boracay to document the
record-breaking effort which comes with a cost.
