Aklan athletes ready for Laguna Palarong Pambansa

Twenty athletes from Aklan will represent the Western Visayas region in this year’s Palarong Pambansa which will be held in Barangay Bubukal, Sta. Cruz, Laguna from May 4 to 10.

The weeklong annual meet of 17,000 athletes from 17 regions will open on Sunday in Laguna Sports Complex.

DepEd Aklan Education Program Supervisor I Mary Ann Lopez said eleven elementary athletes will compete in swimming, tennis, basketball, athletics, taekwondo and chess events. 

Nine secondary athletes are also entered in arnis, boxing, athletics and chess events, she said.

They will stay together with the athletes of Western Visayas delegation at Crisanto Guysayko Memorial Elementary School in Nagcarlan, Laguna, about 20-kilometers from Laguna Sports Complex.

The athletes from Aklan in the elementary division are Archie Sarabia from New Washington Elementary School for athletics, John Michael Montana from Marian High Kalibo Foundation, Inc. for basketball and Naomi Gwyne Ramos from Kalibo Pilot Elementary School for chess. 

Also competing in elementary swimming are Georr Jude Briones from Infant Jesus Academy,  Tanya Ureta and Tiffany Shane Yunsal from Lilo-an Elementary School.
  
Lovely Joy Cual from New Buswang Elementary School will compete for taekwondo, Louis Anthony Henderin and Marco Alfredo Quimpo from Infant Jesus Academy and Averille Sacapano from Boracay Island Global Academy for tennis events. 

For secondary level, the Palarong Pambansa athletes are Jasper Jake Daliva (St. Gabriel College), Ronel Sacapano (Panayakan National High School), John Lloyd Salazar (Regional Science HS for Region VI)  and Joseph Matthew Sucro (St. Gabriel College) for  creative/likha anyo and full contact arnis events. 

Other athletes are Angelica De Josef from Lezo Integrated School and Jerremay Rubias from Tangalan National High School in athletics, Alea Bianca Garingalao from Saint Gabriel College in chess and Reynan Lojera Malinao School for Philippine Craftsmen in secondary boxing.
