(Update) The police had activated a Task Group to take the lead in the investigation and the speedy resolution on the shooting incident of a bank officer of Rural Bank of Ibajay.

Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, officer-in-charge of Aklan Police Provincial Office, heads the newly-formed group. Senior Inspector Ariel Nacar, chief of police of Ibajay, served as his deputy and assisted by other law enforcement agencies in Aklan.

Last April 25, assistant bank manager Gabriel Manikan was found dead inside the burning building of Rural Bank of Ibajay, which is located along the national highway of Barangay Poblacion in Ibajay, Aklan by responding fire fighters.

He was brought to Ibajay District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by attending physician.

Autopsy reports of police crime laboratory revealed that Manikan, who had gunshot wounds to the chest, was tested negative of gun powder nitrate.

Nacion said, “there is no clear and more bizarre motive for killing Gabriel Manikan.”

“We are conducting thorough probe to find out the cause of death and who is responsible for this act with the pieces of evidence from the crime scene,” he stressed.

Police said the investigators will continue to pursue multiple leads and eventually solve the crime.

“The task force wants this case solved the earliest possible time and put an end to speculations,” Nacion added.

“Medyo may puzzle pa, but further investigation is more needed,” he said.

The task force, Nacion said, is also “working to determine why
Manikan was inside the bank early in the morning, why the building was set on fire, then why he was shot by the suspects.
