It
was a 1-2 finish for Western Visayas region in elementary boys’ discus throw
event in the ongoing 2014 Palarong Pambansa in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
John
Paul Plomeda took the discus throw gold with a 28.83 meters heave.
Plomeda,
a 12-year old athlete from T.M. Morada Sr. Elementary School in Bago City,
Negros Occidental improved his personal best of 23.92 meters he submitted in Negros
Occidental provincial meet.
His
teammate 12-year old Archie Sarabia from New Washington Elementary School in
New Washington, Aklan finished second in the discus throw final with a throw of
26.56 meters, to edge Jobert Bartolome of Mimaropa, who heaved 26.05 meters,
for the silver.
The
old Palarong Pambansa record was established in 2005 by Sonny Boy Tartana of
National Capital Region in 36.12 meters.
In
athletics elementary girls, Estelle Jeane Bornales of San Jose Elementary
School in Dingle, Iloilo ruled the triple jump with a leap of 10.59 meters at
the expense of Annaly Sinconiegue of Northern Mindanao, with a jump measuring 10.44
meters.
Meycee
Magdangal from Alimango Elementary School in Escalante City, Negros Occidental
also claimed the bronze medal in 10.06 meters.
In
athletics secondary boys, Rogil Pablo of Loong National High School in
Concepcion, Iloilo settled for bronze in triple jump in 13.90 meters behind
Martin James Esteban of Central Luzon (14.31 meters) and Kirk Cire Bacas of Northern Mindanao (14.25
meters).
