BORACAY- The holiday exodus to the island of Boracay is expected to swell in the onset of the yearly Holy Week celebration.
The traffic of passengers and vacationers in Caticlan jetty port is also seen to peak as resorts and hotels are fully booked until Easter Sunday.
Thousands of foreign and local tourists will be hitting the world-famous beach destination in Aklan in the Lenten break holiday and the summer season.
Last year, data from the Department of Tourism showed that visitors in Boracay reached 378,694 from January to May.
For Lenten season alone, this world top beach destination accommodated 24,009 tourists or a 12.6 percent increase compared to 2009 owing to the affordable packages and fares of local airlines and resorts for visitors.
With the surge in domestic travel in Aklan and in Boracay Island and the positive growth of tourism, the provincial government is enhancing tourist service facilities in Caticlan and Cagban ports.
To ensure the safety of tourists, the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) is deploying additional personnel to tighten security in public places.
