Jemar Magbanua Elera, 32, resident of Luzuriaga Street in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental and his 40-year old live-partner Eubel Esposo Marcon of Cabatuan, Iloilo were apprehended by operatives.

They were caught selling two pieces of P1,000 counterfeit bills in exchange for P600 marked money to a police poseur buyer  in the morning of September 12.

The suspects were staying in Oyo Torong Street in Bakhaw Sur, this town, during the police entrapment operation.

Operatives of Kalibo municipal police station also recovered 147 pieces of P1,000 bills from the suspects.

“Galing sa isang bayan sa Cebu ang counterfeit bills at ipinapadala sa akin sa barko. Mga three weeks pa ang operation ko,” Elera said.
The suspect admitted he sold 130 pieces of P1,000 fake bills to various groups and individuals weeks ago.

Operatives took them into custody and detained at Kalibo police lock-up cell after the sting operation.

The counterfeit bills were sent to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas-Roxas City for further verification.

Chief Inspector Kenneth Paniza, deputy chief of Kalibo police, said the suspects will be facing complaints for violations of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or illegal possession of counterfeit treasury and bank notes.

Kalibo police is also investigating an incident after a customer tried to victimize gasoline station employees in Barangay Pook in Kalibo by exchanging ten pieces of P1,000 fake bills into genuine P100 bills.

Paniza reminded the public to remain vigilant on the circulation of fake peso bills use to pay in small sari-sari stores, markets and gasoline stations.
