Police seized several
pieces of counterfeit Philippine peso bills following a buy-bust operation in
Kalibo, Aklan.

Jemar Magbanua Elera, 32, resident
of Luzuriaga Street in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental and his 40-year old live-partner
Eubel Esposo Marcon of Cabatuan, Iloilo were apprehended by operatives.
They were caught selling
two pieces of P1,000 counterfeit bills in exchange for P600 marked money to a
police poseur buyer in the morning of
September 12.
The suspects were staying in
Oyo Torong Street in Bakhaw Sur, this town, during the police entrapment
operation.
Operatives of Kalibo
municipal police station also recovered 147 pieces of P1,000 bills from the
suspects.
“Galing sa isang bayan sa Cebu
ang counterfeit bills at ipinapadala sa akin sa barko. Mga three weeks pa ang
operation ko,” Elera said.
The suspect admitted he
sold 130 pieces of P1,000 fake bills to various groups and individuals weeks
ago.
Operatives took them into
custody and detained at Kalibo police lock-up cell after the sting operation.
The counterfeit bills were
sent to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas-Roxas City for further verification.
Chief Inspector Kenneth
Paniza, deputy chief of Kalibo police, said the suspects will be facing complaints
for violations of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or illegal possession
of counterfeit treasury and bank notes.
Kalibo police is also
investigating an incident after a customer tried to victimize gasoline station employees
in Barangay Pook in Kalibo by exchanging ten pieces of P1,000 fake bills into
genuine P100 bills.
Paniza reminded the public
to remain vigilant on the circulation of fake peso bills use to pay in small sari-sari
stores, markets and gasoline stations.
