Wounded cops appealed for help

Families and relatives of the wounded policemen in Aklan appealed for help to cover the hefty hospital expenses.

Police Officer 2 Kynch Parce and Police Officer 3 Rufino Donato, both assigned in Makato police station, were confined in private hospitals after a road accident in Calangcang national highway in Makato, Aklan that also resulted to the death of two civilians on March 6.

Parce, resident of New Washington, Aklan, is recuperating in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Iloilo Doctor’s Hospital for fractured shoulder and leg while Donato, resident of Estancia, Kalibo is also in ICU of Panay Health Care Multi-purpose Cooperative Hospital in Kalibo for fractured arm and leg.  

On Friday, Senior Police Officer 1 Cyrus Alph Parce said the situation of his younger brother is critical.  

“My brother is responding and if his blood pressure is stable, he will undergo a surgical operation for badly damaged liver and intestine. He also needs blood bags with type AB and platelet transfusion,” he said.

“Hoping and praying for his recovery and truly thankful for everyone who pray and have given their generous assistance to my brother,” Parce added. 

Any financial support for the policemen could be coursed through the municipal police stations or radio stations and the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO).

The policemen were investigating a road accident at around 10:30 p.m. involving a motorcycle and truck parked along the national highway. Without warning, a speeding Caticlan-bound passenger van driven by Ricardo Palmes of Calinog, Iloilo crashed into civilians and policemen standing near the motorcycle and truck. 

The police officers were thrown forward and sustained injuries. Motorcycle driver Erwin Melanio of Cabatanga, Makato and truck driver Rogelio Autor from Bicol were killed. 

Palmes was charged for the crime of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and physical injuries. He is detained at Aklan Rehabilitation Center in Nalook, Kalibo.
