DepEd Aklan: Observe austerity measures on grad rites

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

Aklan Division Schools Superintendent Dr. Jesse Gomez directed school officials in the province to observe austerity measures during graduation or closing ceremonies in all levels, which are scheduled either April 6 or April 7.

Gomez said graduation rites should be conducted in schools and the graduating students are urged to wear school uniforms or their “Sunday best” clothes.

“Don’t spend for extravagant attire or hold closing ceremonies in hotels. Make your closing and graduation exercises simple, yet meaningful,” he added.

Non-payment of voluntary school contributions for Boy Scout, Girl Scout, Anti-TB and Red Cross shall not be used also by school officials not to sign the clearances and the non-issuance of class cards of pupils.

“These organizations are partners of Department of Education (DepEd) for the development of every school children. Parents who could afford may pay the voluntary contributions,” he stressed.

Parent-Teachers Association (PTAs) may also contribute voluntarily for the after-graduation celebrations and ceremonies for both private and public elementary and high schools.

Gomez also encouraged the parents to report any violations of public or private schools on the “no-collection” policy at DepEd-Aklan Division Office or call (036) 2684235.

This year’s graduation theme is “Sabay-sabay sa Hakbang Tungo sa Maunlad na Kinabukasan.”

On the other hand, elementary and secondary schools need to complete 201 school days inclusive of 180 days contact time before the graduation rites. The school opening will also begin on June 5 after two months of summer vacation of students.

“However, there will be massive trainings for K-12 teachers by April and May,” Gomez added.
