Manlapaz, former logistics
and research development division head of PRO-6, assumed the post in the Aklan Police
Provincial Office (APPO) on March 20.
PRO-6 director Chief
Superintendent Jose Gentiles had issued marching orders for Manlapaz to focus
not only on illegal drugs and gambling but also in the accounting of wanted
persons.
“So far we have no plans
to reshuffle the unit commandeers. Maybe after we review their accomplishments
that we could initiate changes or transfer of police personnel to other units,”
Manlapaz said.
For the first time, Manlapaz
will hold the post as police director of a province.
The acting police director
succeeded Senior Superintendent John Mitchell Jamili, who was assigned in the
national support unit of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group.
He was previously assigned
in Guimbal, Iloilo in 2002 as municipal chief of police and finished his
Masters in Public Administration in 2008 at the University of Iloilo.
Manlapaz also appealed for
support of stakeholders, uniformed and non-uniformed personnel, church leaders
and elected government officials in the fight against criminality.
Superintendent Gilbert
Gorero, spokesperson of PRO-6, said, ”Manlapaz assignment is temporary or in
acting capacity until the Aklan governor will choose a permanent APPO director
from a list of eligible officers.”
Meanwhile, Superintendent John Limuel
Villafranca will be the “caretaker” of PRO-6 logistics and research development
division following the new assignment of Manlapaz.
