Tour guides train for disaster resiliency too

Tour guides in Libacao, Aklan will be trained by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in partnership with the local government of Libacao to increase the capacities of vulnerable communities against the effects of natural hazards.

Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) is a community-based capacity building program targeted to create more job and economic opportunities of the families through different modalities such as skills training.

Provincial Tourism Officer Roselle Ruiz said 20 participants from different barangays of Libacao attended the skills training on tour guiding and adventure services with disaster risk reduction management component at Libacao Cultural Center from February 20 to 28.

Aside from tour guiding techniques, topics discussed were sustainable tourism and environmental management, Libacao history and culture and tourism situationer. Tour guides will be trained also on disaster risk management to increase their ability to respond and to better prepare to natural disaster emergencies.

Libacao, an upland municipality in Aklan, has unspoiled natural beauty and thrilling river adventure such as kayaking and bamboo rafting. It has vast hilly terrains and waterfalls and considered an excellent site for camping, mountain and jungle trekking.
