Kalibo food and music fest kicks off June 18

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

Let the good times roll as local food and music come together in Kalibo’s mid-year festival this week.

Now on its 20th year, the Kalibo Food and Music Festival kicks off on June 18 until June 23 in honor of Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint of the town of Kalibo.

Kalibo Ati-Atihan Tourism Council (KATC) in partnership with the municipal government headed by  Kalibo mayor William Lachica is bringing in some big guns in reggae.

For the past 20 years, the festival is literally a “come one, come all, young and old, celebration” of the Feast of Saint John the Baptist.

The festival also promises plenty of entertainment and local cuisine for night goers and tourists. This year is no different, with 14 kiosks serving foods and drinks paired up with the Pinoy rock-pop and reggae bands from Iloilo, Kalibo and Manila, local acoustic singers and disk jockeys (DJs) beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Kalibo Magsaysay Park.

Come out and party down with Katukamus, Cool Sessions, MOM Band, Bahaghari, Broad Band, Behind Closed Doors and Indio-I as they slated to play at the six-day food festival.

Also rub elbows all night with Ambo, Tunog Ritmo (Pot, Mel and Ton), Mc Jay O, Jeb Jingco, Jeril Panado, Mac, Pep Mayor, John Almasol, Mike Regalado, Mc Rey Gambol, The Strings and Alex Buday.

The festival started on June 1995 during the administration of then Kalibo mayor Diego Luces. It was originally held along S. Martelino Street across the Kalibo Pastrana Park, thus, it was coined “Kalibo Food Festival sa Kalye.”

On June 2008, Typhoon Frank devastated the town of Kalibo. The following year, the event was transferred at Kalibo Magsaysay Park.
