Drug suspect arrested in Aklan

Police has intensified its campaign against the proliferation of drugs after the No. 1 drug personality in the eastern side of Aklan was arrested on Sunday. 

Senior Inspector Bernard Ufano, chief of Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group (PAIDSOTG), identified the suspect as Juniffer Berco alias Nonoy of Iloilo City and residing in Barangay Andagao in Kalibo, Aklan.

Berco, 50, is supplying drugs for the towns of New Washington, Banga and Kalibo for over three years.

“May runner siya sa tatlong banwa. Tag matunugan na nga name sa listahan,  nagpinanaw siya sa Manila ag nagbalik siya sa Kalibo last March eamang, for his illegal trade,” Ufano said. 

Berco was nabbed in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Andagao at about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Confiscated from Berco were P1,000 marked money including plastic sachet containing crystals believed to be shabu  and plastic sachets containing residue of suspected shabu, 

Also seized from the suspect were improvised scooper, digital weighing scale, used foil containing residue of suspected shabu, disposable lighters and a mobile phone.

The police operation was conducted by operatives of PAIDSOTG, Aklan Provincial Intelligence Branch and the Kalibo police station.

Ufano said the suspect will be facing charges for violations of Section 5 and 11 of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Acts of 2002.
