Loud noise, party in Boracay ban on Good Friday

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

Parties and merrymaking could wait once Good Friday is over in Boracay Island.

Bars, hotels and restaurants are totally disallowed to make any form of loud noise and partying from 6 a.m. of Good Friday until 6 a.m. of Black Saturday.

Malay Sangguniang Bayan Resolution No. 015 series of 2009 cited that Good Friday is “a solemn day and traditionally Filipinos observed the day with silence in respect to the Lenten season.”

The local government of Malay also does not issue event permits to establishments for Good Friday, which is a Christian religious holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.

Holy Week is a time for thanksgiving and meditation for Christians and participating in church activities.

Police officers from Boracay Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC) will conduct routine inspection of the establishments violating the ‘no noise, no party’ policy during the observance of Good Friday.

Policemen in the island are also on alert to ensure security of tourists and residents during the Holy Week holidays.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Red Cross Boracay-Malay Chapter would be on hand to provide first assistance to travelers in Boracay.

Red Cross volunteers will be deployed also in first aid stations to assist visitors in cases of emergencies.
