BUSTER Patrol heightens Boracay’s security and police visibility

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

To make their presence felt, security forces in Boracay Island had intensified its enforcement and patrol system during the summer vacation months.

Police Officer 3 Christopher Mendoza of Boracay's Police Community Relations said a pro-active and strategic approach on law enforcement operations and public safety services known as B.U.S.T.E.R. PATROL (Boracay Action Group Unified Strategic Tourism Enforcement and Ronda Patrol) is implemented in Boracay Island.

Aside from Boracay Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC), the Philippine National Police (PNP) also tapped Task Group Boracay-Philippine Army, and force multipliers and volunteers, which are all members of Boracay Action Group (BAG) to assist in the anti-criminality efforts.

Mendoza stressed “this is a normal patrolling but to add a twist we named it to B.U.S.T.E.R. Patrol. Through this program, we are more visible along the beach fronts.”

“Tourists feel safe and secure because of our presence. There was a positive effect, theft and salisi that transpired along the beach has significantly decreased plus we continue on raising awareness to tourists on the modus operandi of commissioners.”

Day and night, BTAC has fielded its uniformed policemen with the support of Task Group Boracay-Philippine Army and volunteers for police visibility and patrol operations, which is in line with the PNP’s policy of deploying office personnel for patrol duty.

Cops on bikes also regularly patrol the beach fronts and strategic places aimed at enhancing their anti-crime drive.

Police also continues mobile patrols in different areas of convergence to maintain peace and order and security in the island.

By May this year, Boracay Island will be hosting the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). The island is also anticipating the influx of travelers for the summer months and the Holy Week.

  1. Useless. Had a bag stolen from a resort chair at the Boracay Regency Resort and Spa last week. This was at 7am, hardly a soul on the beach other than the hotel security who failed to see or do anything. The Resort Manager Dindo Salazar denied all responsibility, claimed that the hotel is forced to used 3rd party security by the government and that when he inquired about my case he found the head of security "arrogant." This is disappointing from a group like Henann Resorts who should take responsibility for their guests safety and not blame it on the security company that they themselves hire.
