Police arrested a 30-year old woman who
claimed an LBC parcel containing suspected shabu yesterday afternoon in Kalibo,
Aklan.
Acting Aklan police provincial director
Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion said agents of Provincial Anti-Illegal
Drugs Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG) conducted the operation at
around 4:45 p.m. inside the LBC office in Gaisano Capital Kalibo along Roxas
Avenue Extension.
Police identified the suspect as Jennifer
Andrade from Purok 5, Barangay Naisud in Ibajay, Aklan. The suspect is the wife
of 34-year old Junel ‘Kano’ Andrade, who was apprehended by the anti-narcotics
unit of Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) in a buy-bust operation last June
8 in their house in Ibajay, Aklan.
Nacion said the LBC parcel contained children
toys and a sachet of suspected shabu, weighing around 4.6 grams, placed and
hidden inside a handheld brick game that was sent from Cavite province.
The suspected shabu has an estimated value of
P200,000 when sold in the market.
Andrade was with her three kids in tow when
PAIDSOTG operatives pounced down on her at the local mall.
Nacion identified the sender as one Monica
Mohammed of 5th Street, Agustin Compound of Bacoor, Cavite. The LBC
parcel was supposed to be sent for pick-up to Jennifer Andrade with her mobile
number written in the LBC parcel.
Before the arrest, PAIDSOTG chief Police
Inspector Wilfredo Hofilena said they received intelligence information on
Wednesday that Andrade will claim the package containing shabu through a
forwarding firm on Thursday afternoon.
In an interview, Andrade said she was
instructed to claim a package by a certain ‘Bombay’ in exchange for P5,000.
She said this was the ‘first time’ she picked
up a package at LBC office in Kalibo, Aklan.
Andrade said she didn’t have enough money to
feed her five children and out of poverty, the suspect agreed to pick-up the
illegal drugs placed inside the LBC parcel.
Andrade also denied that she knew the sender
of the LBC parcel.
"Nakuha ko ang contact number ni Monica
Mohammed sa prison jail. Gin intrehan ko ra para magamit ko ro kwarta sa pag
pag-check up sa akun nga dughan ag makabakae it bugas sa mga unga,” said
Andrade, who hails from Tablas, Romblon.
Hours before she went to LBC office, Andrade
visited his husband detained in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology
(BJMP) in Nalook, Kalibo, Aklan.
As this developed, Nacion urged courier
companies to require identification cards to determine the real name and
address of origin of the sender.
“Siguraduhan sang mga courier companies na
ang gapadala, may ID gid dapat,” he said.
Nacion said the suspected shabu will be
submitted to Aklan Provincial Crime Laboratory for examination. The suspect also will be subjected for a drug test.
Andrade will be facing charges for violation
of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
