Bloodletting organizers from the private
sector in Aklan were cited in the 2014 Regional
Sandugo awarding ceremony of the Department of Health (DoH) in Iloilo City
last week.
The Sandugo award recognizes individuals,
government agencies, non-government organizations and local elected officials
for their involvement and support for the National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP) of the government.
The regional Sandugo awardees for Aklan were DyIN
Bombo Radyo Philippines Kalibo, Boracay Regency Hotel and
Convention Center and DySM FM Love Radio Kalibo/Kalibo Cable Television
Network, Inc.
PHO-Aklan officials
led Dr. Victor Santamaria, Roger Debuque, Dr. Arthur Malapit and Dr. Cornelio Cuachon, Jr. graced the
Sandugo awarding ceremony in Sarabia Manor Convention Center.
A total of fifty Sandugo
winners in the region were recognized and received their trophies from DoH
regional director Marlyn Convocar for their active involvement in the blood
donation program.
Pursuant to Republic Act 7719
also known as the National Blood Services Act of 1994, both
private organizations, national agencies and the entire communities are
actively engaged in the voluntary blood donation program to provide sufficient
supply of safe blood.
DoH
also appealed for local governments to launch more innovative programs and to intensify
blood donor education and campaign in the communities.
