The
town of Kalibo will have to utilize the front portion of Medalla Milagrosa
cemetery along Osmena Avenue as temporary parking lot for public utility
vehicles (PUVs) for the Eastern side of Aklan.
Kalibo
mayor William Lachica has requested the Sangguniang Bayan to authorize him to
enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Diocese of Kalibo regarding the frontage portion of Medalla Milagrosa Cemetery in Barangay Estancia as terminal for public
utility vehicles.
Under
the terms, the local government of Kalibo will be paying P12,500 yearly
with a 20 percent increase upon renewal with the Diocese of Kalibo.
The
temporary parking lot will be utilized by public utility vehicles plying the routes
from Altavas, Balete, Banga and Libacao to the capital town of Kalibo and
vice-versa.
Sangguniang
Bayan member Ariel Fernandez, vice chairman on Committee on Transportation,
said the property is owned by the Diocese of Kalibo, which is headed by Bishop
Jose Corazon Tala-oc.
“Since
the lot is idle and there are no plans yet for the Diocese of Kalibo to utilize
the property, it is then ideal to be temporarily use for PUVs of the eastern
side as parking lot, “Fernandez said.
“Magiging
unified na ro PUVs sa ap-at na banwa, maregulate ro pagsukot it banwa sa mga
PUVs ag madecongest pa ro area sa anda nga makaron nga presente nga mga terminals.”
The
terminal of Libacao buses and jeepneys is located along Toting Reyes Street
while the jeepneys, vans and multicabs for Banga, Altavas and Balete routes are
stationed along Osmena Avenue near Crossing Rotanda.
Fernandez
said the daily collection from terminal fees is targeted at P2,500 or P67,500 monthly if
the unified parking terminal will temporarily operate in Medalla Milagrosa Cemetery.
“Paagi
kara indi na mag renta ro mga PUVs kung idto tanan sa parking terminal it
munisipyo sa may Milagrosa cemetery, mas pabor kanda rong dayang plano,”
Fernandez said.
Kiosks and stalls for transport passengers will be established also at the temporary terminal, he stressed.
Earlier,
the town of Kalibo is negotiating with the lot owners to establish a multi-million permanent and integrated transport terminal complex in front of Kalibo Fire station along Quezon
Avenue.
