An elderly man was killed and five people including a minor were injured after two gunmen went on a shooting rampage in Sitio Pakilawa, Barangay Unidos in Nabas, Aklan on Monday evening.

Police Chief Inspector Arnolito Laguerta, chief of Nabas police station, said the shooting incident took place at around 8:30 p.m. at a public billiard hall.

Unidos, one of the 20 barangays of Nabas, is about 10 kms east of Caticlan, Malay, Aklan.

Initial investigation showed the victims were drinking and sitting inside the billiard hall when two suspects wearing mask bonnets fired their shot gun towards the group of Unidos barangay captain Dante Berondo.

In an interview by Barangay 92.9 Super Radyo Kalibo, Laguerta said the barangay captain tagged Johnson Columbres as one of those who shot them, apparently due to their land dispute.

The companion of the alleged suspect is still unidentified, he added.

Laguerta said barangay captain Berondo received death threats prior to the shooting incident.

Berondo had chest and knee injuries while his younger brother Rofel, a resident of Barangay Laserna in Nabas, Aklan, was shot and killed on the spot with head injuries.

Four victims identified as Joel Sajise, Lester Ivan Sajise, Victor Velasco and a 12-year old minor, all of them from Barangay Unidos, also suffered injuries. They were treated at the Aklan provincial hospital.

“Sa una owa nag-eupok ro baril, sa pangaywa kami naigu-an. Nag-daeagan kami agud magpabulig sa mga tawo sa likod nga parte it bilyaran,” Velasco said in a radio interview.

Police authorities had intensified the hunt for the immediate arrest of the suspects in the shooting incident.
