Kalibo-Numancia bridge construction ongoing

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

The construction of a new Kalibo-Numancia bridge spanning Aklan River is ongoing.

The P370-million new bridge is constructed parallel to the old Kalibo-Numancia bridge, which is also being rehabilitated by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The bridge is vital for the socio-economic development plan for the municipalities of Kalibo and Numancia as it serves as an access route to the municipalities in the eastern and western side of Aklan.

The Kalibo-Numancia bridge is one of the major road network projects lined-up by DPWH for the province of Aklan.

Last month, Aklan officials met with Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson to see the progress of the construction of the bridge project, which will also greatly contribute in the tourism industry and provide easier transport of people, goods and services.

The project involves the construction of two- lane thoroughfare with 15 spans measuring 30 meters each with a width of 7.32 meters and balluster type concrete railings.

The bridge, scheduled to be completed by end of 2015, is also expected to reduce traffic congestion in the area.
