Aklan SP member ready to resign?

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

RODSON MAYOR
Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) member Rodson Mayor offered to resign if the administrative complaint filed by Engr. Jonathan Salvador against New Washington town mayor Atty. Edgar Peralta is ‘sufficient in form and substance.’

Mayor was replying to DyIN Bombo Radyo Kalibo question on whether the investigating committee headed by SP member Plaridel Morania will vote as sufficient in form, substance and grounds the case filed by Salvador.

Mayor, a political ally of Peralta, said, “he offered to quit if the complaint is proven true in form and substance.”

But, if the investigating committee ruled out and determined that the case was “insufficient in form and substance’, Mayor has called the Aklan SP members to publicly apologize only.

Aside from Morania, other members of the investigating committee are SP members Ramon Gelito, Esel Flores, Harry Sucgang and Apolinar Cleope.

Salvador filed an administrative case against Peralta before the Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan for alleged abuse of authority under Section 60 of Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991.

Salvador, who owns a shipyard facility, resto and river cruising business in Barangay Polo, New Washington, Aklan, was allegedly charged by the municipal government for operating without business permit, mayor’s permit and environmental clearance certificate on April 2013.

Last October, the Sangguniang Bayan of New Washington had authorized Mayor Peralta to immediately issue and implement a closure order of the Metallica Shipyard.

The council also authorized to immediately revoke the zoning clearances and business clearance to Dumaguit-Batan Ferries Corporation and to Metallica Marine Consultancy and Fabrication Services for “gross misrepresentation of the real nature of their business operation as that of the Yard Bar and Restaurant and the Metallica Shipyard.”

Salvador, however, denied all the allegations.

Under Section 63, preventive suspension may be imposed by the provincial governor if the respondent is an elected official of a component city of municipality.
