Human remains found in Boracay to be examined

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

Authorities have to examine the human remains found last week in Boracay Island.

Superintendent Georby Manuel, chief of Provincial Scene of Crime Operations (SOCO), said the skeletal remains will be transported to Kalibo, Aklan for examination by the Philippine National Police (PNP) medico-legal examiner on May 27.

“The medico-legal examiner will also determine the approximate age of the deceased by examining the skeletal remains. DNA samples from the bones could be extracted for analysis if relatives would like to positively identify the person,” Manuel said.

“It was not immediately known if the remains were those of a male or a female.”

Initial investigation of SOCO Boracay Satellite Office revealed that a human skull and three pieces of bones have been unearthed by construction crews building a new hotel in Sitio Cagban in Barangay Manoc-Manoc last week.

Workers also uncovered several bones at the construction site they were excavating.

Manuel said investigators will have to find out whether the site was a regular place of burial or the site of a ‘crime’.
