For the first time, thousands
of massage therapists and volunteers took part in Boracay Island’s attempt to
break a Guinness Book of World Record for the longest massage chain on Friday
morning.
A
record-breaking 1,600 people simultaneously massaged each other for seven
minutes at the White Beach near Station 2, said Malay tourism officer Felix
Delos Santos.
The
attempt broke the existing 1,223 participants set by Have A Good Dream Co. Ltd
and Thai Beverage Marketing Co. Ltd in Bangkok, Thailand four years ago.
Aklan
Governor Florencio Miraflores and Malay town mayor John Yap also witnessed the largest
ever simultaneous massage of volunteers and trained massage therapists in the
beachfront.
The
longest massage chain was organized by the local government of Malay in collaboration
with Aldtriz Corporation, San Miguel Corporation and Petron as part of the
annual ‘Boracay Day’ celebration.
The
bid to establish the world record is designed to promote health and wellness
and to strengthen the international competitiveness of Boracay massage to the
world.
The
spas in the resort island are popular for its affordable massage treatments, as
well as traditional services of masseurs on the beach.
Delos
Santos said the Boracay attempt of
getting into the Guinness book for longest massage chain will be sent to the
Guinness World Records for validation.
