Aklan athletes shine in Palarong Pambansa 2014

Aklan delegation won a total of 10 medals for Western Visayas at the close of the 2014 Palarong Pambansa held from May 4 to 10 in Sta. Cruz, Laguna. 

In the elementary division, Aklan athletes garnered three silver medals in athletics, tennis and chess events for the weeklong school-based national games. 

Archie Sarabia of New Washington Elementary School won the silver medal for elementary boys’ discus throw while Naomi Gwyne Ramos from Kalibo Pilot Elementary School settled for silver for elementary girls’ standard chess team. 

Averille Sacapano from Boracay Global Island Academy also bagged the silver in elementary girls tennis team event.   

In the secondary division, the Aklan delegation had two golds and five bronzes in arnis, athletics and chess events. 

John Lloyd Salazar of Regional Science High School for Region VI took the bronze in Anyo Individual Event double weapon.

Jasper Jake Daliva and Joseph Matthew Sucro, both from Saint Gabriel College and Salazar also dominated the Team (Synchronized) Single Weapon of the arnis event for the gold. 

The arnis trio also captured the bronze in Team (Synchronized) Double Weapon. 

Jerremay Rubias from Tangalan National High School won the bronze in javelin throw while Angelica De Josef of Lezo Integrated School bagged the gold after ruling the 800-meter run.

De Josef also snatched the bronze medal for Western Visayas in 4x400 meter relay.

In chess, Alea Bianca Garingalao from Saint Gabriel College captured the bronze medal in blitz team event.
