The provincial government
of Aklan will honor and appreciate the humanitarian acts of modern-day heroes
in the wake of super typhoon Yolanda devastation on Friday.
Apart from honoring more
than 30 individuals, non-government organizations, public and private sectors
for the help extended in the relief and rehabilitation efforts of Aklan, there
will be a cultural showcase of the provinces of Capiz and Aklan on April 25.
The province of Aklan
separated from Capiz after Republic Act No. 1414 was signed by then President
Ramon Magsaysay on April 25, 1956.
Dubbed “Pagpadungog” event,
the show will bring together the singers, dancers, and of course fashion in
celebration of the 58th founding anniversary of Aklan.
“The event also provides the audience with an
enriching cultural experience and a taste of the diverse cultural presentations
of music and dance of the two provinces,” said Albert Menez, organizer of
Pagpadungog event.
This year’s Pagpadungog will
feature models dressed in hand-woven fabrics of pineapple, raffia and abaca fibers and
cutting-edge but easy-to-wear pineapple fabric (piña) dresses by the top Filipino fashion
designers and an extra treat of the famous Ati-Atihan festival street dancing
of tribe members onstage.
Menez said about 150 participants
from Aklan and Capiz will join in the creative cultural show.
One of the performances of
Aklan involved the “Pag-abi-abi” – a welcome dance of the barrio folks for the
visiting officials and leaders of the guerilla movement during the World War
II.
Expected to grace the
‘Pagpadungog’ are Capiz Governor Victor Tanco, Aklan Governor Florencio
Miraflores, Aklan Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo and Aklan Rep.
Teodorico Haresco, Jr.
The evening’s masters of
ceremonies are Provincial Administrator Atty. Selwyn Ibarreta and Methuselah Santamaria.
The event will start at 7 p.m. in front of Provincial Capitol Building.
