Two Aklanon chess players qualified for the 2014 National Age-Group Chess Championship finals in San Antonio, Quezon province.

Provincial Sports Coordinator Wilfredo Neri said Precious Day Ame Yecla of St. Dominic School of Kalibo will compete in girls under-8 and Alea Bianca Daroy Garingalao of Saint Gabriel College (High School department) is entered in girls under-16 category.

The chess tourney gets underway on April 21 to 28 at Leachar Resort and Leisure Park in Quezon province.

The young chessers participated in the Visayas leg elimination of the National Age-Group chess championships in Bacolod City last April 4 to 6.

Last December, Yecla represented the country in the World Youth Age Group Championships in United Arab Emirates.

Garingalao will also see action with the Western Visayas chess team in the 2014 Palarong Pambansa in Laguna.

Neri said the two chess players aim to represent the country to the 15th Asean+ Age Group Championships scheduled to take place on June 3 to 12, 2014 in Sands Cotai Central, Macau.

The chess event in San Antonio, Quezon is organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, the governing body of chess in the country.
