The local electric cooperative in Aklan has fully restored the power supply in the barangays within its franchise area hit by super typhoon Yolanda, an official said.
Engr. Joel
Martinez, assistant manager for engineering of Aklan Electric Cooperative
(Akelco), said the restoration effort in areas affected by super typhoon
Yolanda was massive.
“The
remaining barangays in the town of Libacao, Aklan were energized before the
deadline set. There are houses in those remote areas heavily damaged by the typhoon still without electricity,” he said in an interview.
“These residential
consumers are ready to receive power from Akelco but they would first prioritize
building their houses or they are too
far from the power lines,” Martinez added.
The
Department of Energy (DoE) and the National Electrification Administration
(NEA) imposed a deadline of March 31 for areas damaged by Typhoon Yolanda.
Akelco is serving
380 barangays in 17 municipalities in Aklan and two towns in the northern part
of Antique.
Meanwhile, Bosung Powertec Philippines, Inc. has donated two units each
of 50 KVA and four units each of 25 KVA distribution transformers to Akelco for
its rehabilitation and recovery efforts.
NEA also released subsidy grants intended for reconstruction of
distribution lines and rehabilitation works of Akelco.
Task Force
Kapatid of NEA composed of engineers and linemen from Oriental Mindoro Electric
Cooperative, Batangas I Electric Cooperative, Quezon II Electric Cooperative, First
Laguna Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Fleco), Batangas II Electric Cooperative and
Quezon I Electric Cooperative were deployed in Aklan to restore power in the
aftermath of super typhoon.
