According to SB secretary Corcordia Alcantara, the memorandum of agreement between Malay town mayor John Yap and contractor Daewoo Engineering and Construction Company was referred to Committee on Laws chaired by SB member Rowen Aguirre.

The committee will deliberate the agreement after the attendance of legislative council members at Philippine Councilors League (PCL) congress slated this week from March 5 to 7 in SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, she added.

The agreement involves the feasibility study to construct a bridge linking the famous Boracay Island to mainland Malay.

Daewoo Engineering and Construction Company will undertake the study and will identify the financial, technical and engineering design, environment and socio-economic aspects in building the bridge.

The decision whether to build a bridge would be based on the results of the feasibility study and in consultation with sectors in Malay.

The firm, acquired by Kumho Asiana Group, is one of the largest construction companies in South Korea and is active around the world. Daewoo Engineering has successfully designed and supervised the construction of various railroads in Korea and abroad.

It has constructed more than 130 domestic and international highway and bridge projects and gas pipeline and storage tanks in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

The construction company also provides construction, engineering, and architectural services for power, industrial, infrastructure, commercial, and residential projects.
