Stickers campaign vs Boracay child sex offenders

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

The Boracay Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC) has supported the Stickers Campaign project of End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes (ECPAT) Philippines to raise awareness on issues on child sex tourism.

The campaign stickers carrying messages “Report Child Sex Offenders” and “Be A Responsible Traveler” were displayed in tricycle units to help curb child exploitation and abuse in tourist destinations.

These stickers create awareness and spread the messages that child sex exploitation in Boracay Island will not be tolerated and is not acceptable.

For suspected child sex offenders, report them at the 24-hour BTAC hotline 09197777377 or landline 036-2883066.

PO3 Christopher Mendoza, BTAC police community relations officer, said the ECPAT campaign in collaboration with Boracay Land Transport Multi-purpose Cooperative (BLTMPC) is a pro-active support to combat child sex tourism.

ECPAT Philippines is part of a global network of organizations and individuals working together for the elimination of all forms of child prostitution.

In the 2012 Trafficking in Persons Report by the US Department of State,  the Philippine child sex tourism problem remained  ‘a serious problem in the country,   with sex tourists coming from Northeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and North America coming to the country to engage in the commercial sexual exploitation of children.’
