4 guvs grade Aquino 75-90% rating
BY TERESA ELLERA-DULLA

Four governors in Western Visayas gave President Benigno Aquino III's performance during his first year in office a passing rate of 75% to 90%.

Regional Development Council chairman Governor Victor Tanco of Capiz gave Aquino 80% on the President's drive against corruption.

However, Tanco observed that the President lacks publicity, especially on the infrastructure projects of his administration, unlike previous presidents who put signages even on road projects.

Tanco added that most of the programs and projects of the President are not publicized, citing it as "reason why maybe his ratings went down".

On the other hand, Tanco gave the President a 90% rating for appointing the governor's province mate, former senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas II as Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC).

Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez, for his part, gave President Aquino a 90% rating, citing that Aklan is a recipient of the president's poverty reduction program.
Compared to projects delivered by the previous administration, Aquino even doubled the projects for Aklan, according to Marquez. He said the present administration also provides support for the tourism development of his province.

Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has given the President a 75% rating, saying it is still too early to judge a sitting president for only a year.

He said the President may have garnered poor ratings in the survey because he does not advertise what he has been doing and all the efforts of his administration.

Marañon added that he even reminded the Department of Social Welfare and Development to acknowledge the president when distributing the subsidies to its recipients.

Governor Felipe Nava of Guimaras gave President Aquino the highest rating of between 80 to 90% because of the 4Ps program of the present administration. He also exhorted Filipinos to give the president a chance to perform his duties.

He said that every administration has its own way of governance and that probably Filipinos could adapt to the system introduced by Aquino's young administration.
