KALIBO, Aklan - Six candidates for the District 5 election on December 4 filed their certificate of candidacies at the Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco).
Over DyRU Super Radyo Kalibo, Akelco general manager Chito Peralta said the six candidates running for board of director will represent the towns of Kalibo and Numancia for a three-year term.
Peralta said the electric cooperative set the deadline of filing of certificates of candidacy for interested member-consumers on November 24. The candidates must be a bonafide member of Akelco and no unsettled obligations to Akelco at the time of filing of candidacy.
Tossing their hat in the upcoming district election are businessman Rod Quimpo, banker Mabeth Mobo Garcia and Engr. Odonel Radislao from the capital town of Kalibo. Three other contenders from the town of Numancia also launched their candidacies, namely, publisher Engr. Winston Carillo, Frency Ilejay and former barangay captain Errol Fulgencio.
Peralta said he believes the District 5 election would be an exciting election as six prominent candidates are contesting the board of director seat. For the first time in Akelco's history, six candidates beat the deadline in the filing of certificate of candidacies for a district election at the Akelco main office in Lezo, Aklan.
The sole electric power cooperative has 10 board members representing the municipalities in the province of Aklan and three towns in Antique.
Elections in the other districts will proceed as scheduled in District 7 for the towns of New Washington and Batan on December 11 and for District 3 on December 18 for the towns of Ibajay and Nabas.
