Aklan to auction delinquent properties on December 15
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan - To compel property owners to pay their taxes on time, the provincial government will auction their delinquent assets next month.
The Provincial Treasurer's Office (PTO) is scheduled to sell at least 200 parcels of properties located in 17 municipalities on December 15 for failure of the property owners to settle their long overdue tax dues.
The sale or auction by the provincial government is being done by virtue of Section 260 and Section 263 of the Republic Act 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991.
The Provincial Treasurer will conduct the public auction of the real properties on the list certified to be delinquent in payment of real property taxes. The auction is conducted to satisfy all realty taxes, penalties, and cost of foreclosure sale.
The provincial government is expected to generate P20-million for the tax foreclosure sale which starts at 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Gov. Augusto B. Legaspi Sports and Cultural Center.
It was learned that property owners are making payments at the local treasurer's office before the date of auction sale of delinquent real properties.
Before the auction sale, notices of delinquency were sent to the owners reminding to pay their tax obligations. The law also requires the publication of the list of properties with tax delinquencies in a local newspaper of general circulation for two consecutive weeks prior to the auction sale.
All unsold properties unsold or there is no bidder during the auction will be transferred and declared as properties of the local government unit. The taxpayer is allowed to redeem the foreclosed property within one year by paying the costs of sale, real property taxes and its interest.
