Aklan's 12th Infantry Battalion chief assumes post
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan – The 12th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army in Camp Jizmundo, Banga, Aklan has a new battalion commander.
Lt. Col. Alberto Desoyo assumed command, replacing Lt. Col. Henry Dar, on Thursday morning.
Prior to this recent assignment, Desoyo, a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1989, was assigned as commanding officer of 62nd IB in Negros Occidental.
Speaking before the officers and enlisted personnel of 12th IB, Dar said his command as cadre battalion of 3rd Infantry Division is in-charged of administrative requirements of almost 4,000 active Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) auxiliaries across Panay Island and Negros.
“When I assumed the 12th Infantry Battalion (IB) some 14 months ago, I thought that it could not be as challenging as a maneuver battalion. The first months as commanding officer of this unit proved me wrong, I found out that it is as challenging as commanding and maneuver battalion,” Dar said.

“Complimenting this challenge is preventing the peaceful province of Aklan and northern Antique from falling back into the hands of communist fronts, with our insufficient number we performed what was mandated because we firmly believed that being superior is not by size but by purpose.” Dar also thanked the partners in local government units, the Philippine National Police and the civilians in the attainment of the accomplishments of his unit.
“Today I am happy to leave this unit because my men added some accomplishments. I am also thankful to our division commandeer for giving me the opportunity to manage and lead this unit,” Dar stressed.
Major General Vicente Porto, the commander of 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division, presided the turn over of command and conveyed his accolades to Dar for his leadership and accomplishments. The turn-over of command was also witnessed by Banga mayor Antonio Maming and Provincial Administrator Diego Luces.
