Dangal ng Bayan award to ex-Aklan police chief

KALIBO, Aklan – The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has announced the recipients of the Outstanding Public Officials Employees for this year’s Search for Outstanding Public Service Exemplars.
Former Aklan police director Senior Superintendent Benigno “Bong” Durana, Jr. will be conferred the Dangal ng Bayan award for his extraordinary act or public service and consistent demonstration of exemplary ethical behavior under Republic Act No. 6713.
Durana is currently the Senior Executive Assistant of the Office of the Chief PNP in Camp Crame. He was also assigned as deputy chief strategist at the United Nations Observer Mission in Sukhumi, Georgia (Unomig) two years ago and as chief of strategic information for the UN contingent in East Timor.
The 45-year old Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cum laude graduate pioneered the Integrated Transformation Program (ITP) projects to transform the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) into a capable, credible and effective police force during his stint as police provincial director from January 13, 2007 to September 2008.
Durana, who obtained doctorate in Peace and Security Administration at the Bicol University, was also selected as among the country’s outstanding policemen in service (COPS) in the national search of the Metrobank Foundation Inc. and the Rotary Club New Manila East and the Best Senior Police Commissioned Officer for Operations in all of Metro Manila in 2005.
The award rites for the prestigious 2010 Search for Outstanding Public Servants in the observance of 110 years of the country’s civil service. This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme, “In a RACE to Serve: Advancing Responsive, Accessible, Courteous and Effective Public Service.”
Meanwhile, the Civil Service Commission will also conferred the Lingkod Bayan Award to individual or group of individuals for extraordinary contributions resulting from an idea or performance that had nationwide impact on public interest, security and patrimony and the Pagasa Award for an individual or group of individuals for outstanding contributions resulting from an idea or performance that directly benefit more than one department of the government.
