Aklan doctors celebrate Medical Week

KALIBO, Aklan - The Aklan Medical Society (AMS) will be celebrating its 53rd National Medical Week in the province on September 19 to 26.

Bannered by the theme, "Manggagamot, Kaagapay ng Sambayanan Tungo sa Tunay na Pagbabago," the medical week kicks off with a tree-planting on September 18 at Kalibo Bakhawan Eco-Park with the environmental group Kool Earth and a holy mass at St. John the Baptist Cathedral, wreath laying at Kalibo Pastrana Park and free dog vaccination on September 19.

The medicine week is an annual celebration of physicians nationwide who dedicate their professional careers for quality healthcare and public health.

In this 53rd year, the medicine week in Aklan are also highlighted by the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the AMS and Kalibo mayor William Lachica for the Millenium Goals 2015 and free surgical consultation, digital prostate and breast mass screening on September 20.

By September 21, the Aklan physicians will conduct deworming, pedia free check with STAC-Kalibo children and feeding program with pediatrics group. The following day, the AMS conducts free bone scanning, eye and ear check-up for the parents and a forum on Health Education.

On September 23, a forum on Maternal and Child and free consultations followed by the fellowship night and awarding of winners of the sportfest on September 24. An earobics session at the Kalibo Pastrana Park culminates the medicine week on September 25.

The officers of Aklan Medical Society are Oscar Hilario (president), Allyn Ricafuente (vice president), Beatriz Yasa–Diel (secretary), Merlita Bautista (treasurer), Agnes Tabañar (assistant secretary treasurer), Mary Grace Villaruel (auditor), Juliet Macahilas (press relations officer), Rogelio Rivera (protocol officer), Leonardo Raphael Tayco, Jr. (CME coordinator), Felma Dela Cruz (ex–officio member) and Cynthia dela Cruz (Philippine Medical Association governor for Western Visayas)

The board of directors are Eileen May Debuque, Alma Dela Cruz, Velvet Diangson, Donald Dionio, Arnold Jayme, Feven Anthony Palomar, Myrtle Pelayo and Lynn Salido.
