KALIBO, Aklan – Three-termer Aklan solon Florencio ‘Joeben’ Miraflores will soon be rubbing elbows in the incoming 15th Congress with two other party-list representatives proclaimed as winners by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The proclamation of Ang Kasangga sa Kaunlaran (Kasangga) and Bayan Muna party-list groups brought to three the number of solons from the province of Aklan.
Although Aklan is represented in Congress by a lone representative, Bayan Muna first nominee Teodoro ‘Teddy’ Acevedo Casiño, who was first elected in 2004 elections, considered the home province of his mother as his adopted province.
Casiño spent his childhood days in the capital town of Kalibo. He is the third of five children of Atty. Amador C. Casiño of Lucena, Quezon and Lizabelle I. Acevedo of Kalibo, Aklan.
Business leader Teodorico ‘Nonong’ Tumbocon Haresco, Jr of Ang Kasangga is the son of the late Tariff Commission chairman Razon Tumbocon Haresco of Ibajay, Aklan.
Haresco is an accomplished entrepreneur and an Outstanding Aklanon awardee in 2008 being one of the Philippine's leading businessmen.
In 2004, Casiño spearheaded progressive legislations as a neophyte legislator at the House of Representatives. He was also the second nominee of Bayan Muna party-list reelection in May 2007.
In this year’s local and national elections, Bayan Muna (746,019 votes) garnered two seats while Ang Kasangga (296,368 votes) has a lone seat in the 15th Congress of the Philippines. Under the law, those party-list groups that succeed in securing six percent of the total votes get three seats, those which obtain four percent will have two seats, while those with two percent will have one representative.
