Arroyo added the province of Aklan and the island-resort of Boracay is now a top destination for local and foreign tourists.
"The many achievements of Aklan would inspire you to remain committed in working for the continued growth and progress of your province. Certainly, without your cooperation and the strong support of your Governor Carlito Marquez we would not be able to accomplish this much," the Chief Executive pointed out.
Vice President Noli de Castro, for his part, commended the efforts by the Aklan community led by Governor Marquez in promoting the beauty and hospitality of the province and to further accelerate its development.
"Many times in the past, I have said that our country owes much to the beautiful province of Aklan for enhancing our standing in the international tourist market. The exquisite pageantry of the world-famous Ati-Atihan of Aklan has brought many tourists to our shores and cemented our reputation as an interesting travel destination," de Castro said.
De Castro stressed that "Aklan is more than just the Ati-Atihan, it is a community of warm people working together to push progress of Aklan using the many God-given resources wisely and prudently. Verdant fields, rich marine life, abundant forests, exotic beaches, Aklan has been blessed with all these."
Meanwhile, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile said the 54th anniversary of Aklan is an important milestone that will underscore the Aklanon's extraordinary qualities and the province's natural resources which continue to amaze the foreign guests.
"I proudly note the dynamism and determination of your provincial officials, led by Governor Marquez to propel the province of Aklan to greater economic heights. Moreover, I am also proud of the people's creative mind, indomitable spirit, dedication and awesome courage in the face of enormous challenges," he said.

  1. ha ha we could have done a lot better than this. one of the late Godofredo Ramos dream? (vision actually) was to have our very own hydropower plant and not be held hostage to Akelco's mismanaged service! it's been ages since and the only person i heard working for this dream to be realised is the present Mayor of Libacao! what support does our provincial govt. extend is a deafening hush hush quiet i could hear a pin drop! Wake up Aklanon!
