Antique jins bag taekwondo poomsae secondary title

KALIBO, Aklan – Antique jins in the secondary division for boys and girls ruled the taekwondo poomsae competition at the 2010 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet in Saturnino Gomez Fernandez Memorial Sports Center in Lezo, Aklan.
Poomsae, a non-contact side of taekwondo, is performed by following a systematic time of movement in a consecutive sequence against an imaginary opponent or multiple opponents. It consists of movements using the hands and feet and interconnected techniques like blocking, punching, striking, thrusting and kicking.
In the Group A individual secondary boys , Iloilo jin Jose Martin Bullon of Iloilo scored 7.84 points to bag the gold, Pio Dennis dela Cruz of Antique got 7.66 points for silver and Jasmer Arjan Durana of Capiz with 7.60 points for the bronze medal. Aklan’s Mejan Arboleda had 7.28 points and Benjie Jance of Negros scored 7.16 points.
Jeremi Jorge Laureta of Antique topped the Group B individual secondary boys with 8.16 points for the gold while Kent Barcenilla of Iloilo grabbed the silver with 7.78 and Roel Pescante of Negros with 7.76 points for the bronze. Mar Angelo Rivera of Capiz (7.42 points) and Nicoli Regalado of Aklan (6.78 points) were not as lucky in the individual event.
The taekwondo squad from Antique composed of Pio Dennis dela Cruz, Jeremi Jorge Laureta and John Erwin dela Cruz also flashed their winning form to score an average 8.46 points for the gold in the poomsae team event. Jose Martin Bullon, Kent Barcenilla and Ruben Lopez of Iloilo captured the silver medal with 8.14 points followed by the Capiz troika of Lour Daniel dela Cruz, Jasmer Arjan Durana and Mar Angelo Rivera had 7.86 points for bronze.

Antique also dominated the secondary girls with Stephanie Ann Cochico in Group A individual poomsae event with 8.38 points for the gold medal followed by Hannah Marie Hubag of Iloilo with 7.94 points for silver and Mary Therese Gaile Solano of Capiz with 7.74 points for bronze. Novemae delos Santos of Negros had 7.60 points and Candy Periera of Aklan with 6.44 points.
Then, another Antiqueña jin Kiela There Montinola followed suit as she emerged 8.08 points to clinch gold in Group B individual poomsae while Allysa Montero of Iloilo finished second with 7.78 points and Gillian Beatrice Lorca of Negros accumulated 7.74 points for the bronze. Mae Joy Guarino of Aklan got 6.78 points for the fourth spot and Riza Cordovero of Capiz with 6.76 points.
Taekwondo team from Antique also collected gold in the poomsae girls team event with 8.48 points while Iloilo scored 8.20 points for silver and Negros with 7.78 points for the bronze medal.
With five golds and one silver medal haul, Antique is regarded as the most productive team in the mat in the taekwondo poomsae secondary division followed by Iloilo with one gold and five silvers, Capiz and Negros with three bronzes each in the secondary divisions.
Aklan’s taekwondo team was shut out of the medals while the province of Guimaras failed to field any competitor in the poomsae events.
