Comelec Aklan: 316,886 registered voters for May 10 polls

KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan has a total of 316,886 registered voters for the May 10, 2010 national and local elections.
Data gathered by Aklanforum from the Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor showed the capital town of Kalibo has the biggest number of voters with 46,530 followed by Ibajay with 25,481 and New Washington with 23,858.
The town of Banga has 23,063 registered voters, Malay (22,833), Batan (18,874), Numancia (18,678), Balete (17,085), Nabas (16,300), Makato (16,150), Libacao (15,722), Altavas (14,851), Malinao (14,442) and Tangalan (11,868).
Two far-flung towns - Madalag has 11,615 voters and Buruanga with 11,147 while the Aklan’s smallest town of Lezo has 8,389 registered voters.
The towns in the Eastern District have a combined registered voters of 171,598 compared to Western District of 145,288 voters.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) also reported a total of 492 clustered precincts in 327 barangays in its consolidated quarterly progress report last month.
Three candidates are running for the gubernatorial post – reelectionist Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez (Lakas-Kampi), former Aklan Electric Cooperative manager Leovigildo Mationg (independent) and former Manila treasurer Anthony Acevedo (independent) while incumbent Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo (Nacionalista Party) faces the challenge of former Ibajay mayor Roberto Garcia, Jr. (PMP-PDP Laban)
Aklan Rep. Florencio Miraflores (Lakas-Kampi) is running unopposed after his lone opponent withdrew from the congressional race last December.
