KALIBO, Aklan – The suspect in the murder of a British national last year was arrested by the Kalibo police on Wednesday morning.
Kalibo police chief Senior Inspector Arnolito Laguerta, Jr. told the Aklanforum that Amy Roberts, 44, resident of Barangay Tinigaw, this town, was apprehended in Barangay Old Buswang at about 11 a.m.
Judge Montalid Patnubay, Jr. of the Regional Trial Court Branch 9 issued the warrant of arrest on February 15, 2010. No bail was recommended for her arrest.
Amy Roberts was the prime suspect in the murder of her British husband Paul Roberts last June 28, 2009. The 60 year-old victim was found dead lying in bed with multiple stab wounds. The police found the stainless knife and the hammer believed used in the killing of Robert inside their house.
Amy Roberts did not resist arrest after Laguerta and his men – Insp. Ricky Bontogon, SPO3 Joselito Tabios, SP02 Edison de Jose, P02 Ephraem Pura, P02 Ronnie Briones, P01 Lea Felix and P01 Gerald Roxas cornered her near a high school building in Barangay Old Buswang,
Records showed that there were no signs of forcible entry into the house, especially the kitchen. At the time of the attack, shortly past midnight, Amy said she was awakened by unidentified suspects and was hogtied near their walk-in cabinet closet in the master’s bedroom.
Early morning of June 28, 2009, Amy regained consciousness and repeatedly shouted for help to her children. Later, Tinigaw barangay captain Wilna Jizmundo and her son came to their two-storey building and untied her. Amy Roberts, during police investigation, denied her participation in the killing of her husband.
Laguerta said the foreigner’s death came three months after Roberts escaped an assassination attempt at Crossing Banga-New Washington in Kalibo, Aklan on the night of March 27, 2009.
“We will closely monitor the case despite the arrest of Amy Roberts. The British Embassy welcomed the arrest and is also monitoring the developments of the murder case filed against the suspect,” he said.
Roberts was turned over to the Aklan provincial jail in Barangay Pook, the police said.
