BORACAY – Aklan Cong. Florencio Miraflores urged the Department of Tourism (DOT) to finalize the plan for a circumferential road here.
Miraflores said the circumferential road will decongest the narrow road from Cagban Port to Brgy.Yapak. The one-lane road project is part of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP). It aims to spread development and tourism activities in less developed areas of Boracay.
“The much-delayed circumferential road in the other side of Boracay could be implemented this year once the revision of the road network plan is finalized,” he said.
Miraflores said he had asked Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano last week to prioritize the Bolabog circumferential road, stressing the increasing local and foreign tourists in the island every year.
DOT is spending about P350 million for a complete circumferential road and secondary wharfs in the island.
Ayala-owned Manila Water also entered into a water concession with the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) to improve the island’s water and sewerage system, and to expand the infrastructure and water supply facilities
Around 600,000 tourists visited Boracay last year, mostly Koreans and Europeans.
The provincial government also envisioned to expand the Caticlan Port and build medical facilities and infrastructures in its five-year program until 2013.
