BFP Aklan celebrates Fire Prevention Month

KALIBO, Aklan - The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Aklan is celebrating the Fire prevention month from March 1 to 31 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 115-A.
The month-long celebration with a theme, ""Fire safety: A challenge, concern and priority for everybody," is simultaneously observed in seven fire stations in the towns of New Washington, Balete, Altavas, Numancia, Ibajay, Boracay Island and Kalibo.
BFP Aklan, headed by Provincial Fire Marshall Chief Insp. Nestor de Mateo, conducted motorcade and information campaign in schools, offices and business establishments to ensure the safety of the public during fire incidents.
De Mateo said the BFP has a complement of 10 firetrucks and 101 personnel in Aklan.
In Boracay, the Boracay Island Special Fire Protection (BISFPU) under Fire Inspector Rodolfo Cueto, Jr. also commemorated the fire prevention month with a motorcade, distribution of information materials and hanging of streamers.
The fire station was adjudged Best Fire Station of the Year (Rural category) in Western Visayas for the harmonious relationship of BFP and the local government of Malay.
BFP said that for the year 2008, an estimated 7,726 fire incidents were recorded which resulted to the death of 179 people and injured 609 others.
