KALIBO, Aklan - A 55-year old was killed when a Buruanga-bound Ceres bus rammed four vehicles while they were parked in the adjacent parking terminal at Osmena Avenue here early Sunday.
SPO3 Benny Jones Mendoza, chief of Kalibo traffic section, said the accident happened about 4:30 a.m. The fatality was identified as Napoleon Belayro, vice president of Paradise Island Tours and a native of Ibajay, Aklan.
Belayro was pronounced dead on arrival at Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital due to serious injuries, the police said,
Investigation disclosed that the Ceres passenger bus No. 6916 bearing plate number KVN-800 lost control while the driver attempted to start the bus in the Ceres terminal.
While losing control of the bus, the vehicle hit three Ceres buses before it bumped the L300 cooperative office and the four L300 vehicles, which were all parked inside the adjacent L300 terminal of Paradise Island Tours.
Belayro was reportedly sleeping inside the cooperative office when the incident happened.
Mendoza said the bus driver Abner Chiefe, 48, of Barangay Aglanot, Dumarao, Capiz, surrendered to the Kalibo police station.
He is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting to damage of property and homicide.
Ceres bus dispatcher Ed Tangub said the bus was also involved in a road mishap along the national highway of Laguinbanua East in Numancia town on February 7, 2009 that killed three persons.
