BORACAY – Acting Police Provincial Director Senior Supt. Benigno Durana Jr. and Task Force Boracay assured stakeholders of a fine-tuned one-entry, one-exit provincial ordinance for the habagat season.
Task Force Boracay is an offshoot of Provincial Ordinance 005-32 within the mandate of the provincial government to implement the one-entry, one-exit scheme ensuring the safety of tourists and residents in the island.
“After we conducted wide-ranging consultations with stakeholders, the scenarios, most acceptable to the people, were finalized for implementation. I believe we could work together for the good of everybody,” Durana said.
He stressed that Aklan Gov. Carlito Marquez last Friday approved a resolution – a result of integration and consultation with stakeholders and business groups in the island, including the Boracay Foundation Inc (BFI) and the Boracay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) last week.
“We have to find common ground and the task force is tasked to make decisions as much as possible with regards to the implementation of the one-entry, one-exit scheme,” Durana pointed out.
To ensure the safety of tourists and residents using the Tambisaan and Tabon entry-exit points, Malay Mayor Ceciron Cawaling and the local government of Malay would construct “floating piers” within 10 days to disallow the transport of guests and cargoes using flatboats.
The resolution embodies two scenarios in a habagat season where during fair weather, the entry and exit points are Caticlan and Cagban Jetty ports for motorized pump boats of Caticlan Boracay Transport Multi-purpose Cooperative (CBTMPC) and ferries of AMPO Shipping Lines.
If the sea condition is rough and moderate seas, the motorized pump boats are allowed utilizing the Tambisaan-Tabon route with the approval of the Philippine Coast Guard in the area, Durana said.
Durana also discounted the possibility of a phase out of pump boats in the implementation of the ordinance during the habagat season.
Caticlan Jetty Port and Terminal Administrator Nieven Maquirang, for his part, urged for a healthy competition and the upgrading of transport services.
