KALIBO, Aklan – Vice-governor elect Gabrielle Calizo was sworn into office by no less than Senate President Manuel Villar Jr. on Friday afternoon at the Parkhomes, Andagao, Kalibo, Aklan.
Calizo, elected with a wide margin over outgoing Vice. Gov. Ronquillo Tolentino in the last May 14 elections, officially assumed her first term in office on July 1 with a mission of pursuing legislative program that spelled significant developments in the province.
Calizo's oath taking was witnessed by her Nacionalista Party supporters and elected Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, including incumbents Ramon Gelito and Daisy Briones, newcomers retired Aklan provincial director Nemesio Neron and former Akelco president Rodson Mayor.
Vice Gov. Calizo expressed her heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the people of Aklan for electing her as the first lady presiding officer of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
She had been the Aklan SP’s senior board member in 1998 and in 2001, Calizo under Tibyog of Akean ran for Congress for the lone district of Aklan and won by a wide margin over her prominent rivals.
But, in 2004, Calizo, who ran under Kusug it Akean, lost in her reelection bid against three-termer Aklan governor Florencio Miraflores of Tibyog Akean.
